February in the UK is a great time to start sowing new varieties for this years harvest. Summer flowering bulbs such as Lilies and Alliums are great to plant this time of year. Hardy annuals can be directly sown into the ground now too.

Here are our top recommendations for planting in the month of February

Veg to plant in February…

Broad Beans

If conditions are mild, broad beans can be sown directly outside this month.

Kale

Kale can be sown this month, but whilst the weather is still cold, its best to start it off inside.

First Early Potatoes

First early potatoes can now be planted – make sure they’re chitted first.

Carrots

Carrots can be sown now under cloches or a cold frame.

Winter Flowering Shrubs

Winter flowering shrubs such as Hazel, can be planted now.
