Deadhead your flowers

With every unsightly flower removed, you direct the plants energy into producing more flowers. If you don’t remove the dead blooms, seed heads or pods will form instead of new flowers.

If you want your flowerbeds, borders and containers to be beautiful for as long as possible – regular deadheading is the answer!

How to deadhead

Pinch off the dead blooms (ensuring you get the stalk too) just above the first set of full leaves. Use secateurs for tougher plants. Sometimes it may be easier to shear them back entirely. If you need to do this, be sure to check no flower buds are hidden beneath the dead blooms before you shear of the top of the plant.

Be disciplined about deadheading!

If you spend at least a short time in the garden each day, your deadheading task will be much easier.
