Alpines are gorgeous little plants and are currently enjoying a comeback in popularity.
They are great summer plants that are tolerant of direct sunlight and drought and give interest with their vibrant and unusual flowers. The flowering period lasts throughout the summer and sometimes in to Autumn.
As hardy plants, alpines can also cope with cold winters, but they don’t like standing in cold, wet soil, so good drainage is key. Most alpines prefer a neutral or slightly alkaline soil.
Even if you don’t have much space, their compact size means you can create an attractive alpine container, so they are perfect for courtyard gardens and balconies!
