This weekend is an ideal time to get out in the garden and start getting ready for Spring this year.
Weeding
This weekend is an ideal time to get out in the garden and remove any unwanted weeds by hand or with a hoe or with a spade if they are slightly larger. By getting on top of your weeds this weekend they won’t have such a foot hold and can be easier to remove.
Feeding
Once you have finished weeding give your beds and borders a well deserved feed. Ideally use a slow release fertiliser such as an all purpose feed or bone meal. Do check before you purchase that it is suitable for the plants you have in that area.
If your beds are empty then digging in fertiliser or compost before you being to sow or plant anything will give them everything they need to thrive.
Lawn Care
Your grass is just starting to spring back into life and now is the time to give your lawn a light trim. Just enough to take the tops off! You could also use a Weed & Feed to get it looking its best for Summer. We would recommend Westland Aftercut All In One Lawn Feed, Weed & Moss Killer.
Start Growing your own food
If you have areas of the ground that is workable you can start to sow some of your early vegetables. Once planted keep an eye out for late frosts and protect them with fleece if needed.
Plant Summer Flowering bulbs
Start planting your summer flowering bulbs in borders and containers. If you have stored any through winter then carefully sort through them and discard any that are diseased or rotten. As a general rule of thumb most bulbs should be planted at 3 times their depth.
