Life outside slows up a bit in September, it’s batten down the hatches ready for winter survival. Store the fruit, nuts, seeds and tubers. Think about next years garden. Ok in the Garden Centre we have to start thinking about getting Christmas out pretty quick. This year we are going to ease into December (I won’t mention Christmas again) slowly and timely with Autumn scenes getting more and more severe until there is snow everywhere, this way it shouldn’t be such a shock for you when you visit.

We keep getting in more and more spring flowering bulbs, I think I got a bit carried away when I ordered all these in March this year. 90% of them are grown in the UK.

There are still things to do in the garden, dead heading all the flowering shrubs, feed the lawn with phosphates and potash, a good autumn lawn feed, plant trees and shrubs. Good shrubs to plant at this time of year will be shrubs with loads of colour Pyracantha are usually covered in berries (but very thorny), Cornus Alba Sibirica have bright red stems, Skimmia have red berries during the winter months. Its good to get winter flowering pansies in early so that they grow and get flowering well before the cold arrives. I know I keep on about it but spring flowering bulbs need to go in now.

The Café is really busy, Maxine is cooking more and more great delicious food. Her cakes are amazing, to see is to eat. Maxine is now our kitchen manager, her brief, to cook more and more. If you are looking for some part time work in the Café kitchen or front of house please give us a call.
