Bedding plants
Easy to grow plants that complete their lifecycle from seed germination to maturity in a single growing season and then die. Most bedding plants quickly produce a mass of colour, primarily in Spring, Summer or early Autumn (depending on the variety!) and are therefore ideally suited for transforming an otherwise dull borde r in a very short period of time.
Summer bedding plants are the ideal way to add colour to any garden. Either grown from seed or bought as young plants they can be added to the garden after the risk of frost has passed. Annuals and biennials are categorised by the following:
- HA (Hardy Annual) Grows from seed, flowers and dies all in one season. Seeds can be sown directly into your beds
- HHA (Half Hardy Annual) Grows
from seed, flowers and dies all in one season.
Seeds must be sown indoors and planted out after
the last frost
- HB (Hardy Biennial) Grows from seeds producing stems and leaves in the first season and flowering the following year. The seeds can be sown in the garden in summer

Gardeners love bedding plants because of their instant seasonal colour. They are useful for filling gaps between plants and shrubs that aren't fully grown, for growing in containers or planting up a whole bed for immediate effect. They also grow quickly and provide excellent value for money. |
